Choix, abattage et installation du mât de mai

Sarah Jones ‘The Potency of Union’ exhibition of expanded paint tours from the ATELIER MELUSINE, La Trimouille to Forge in France, Journet to be re-situated and re-interpreted in their gallery space and ground.

Sarah Jones is a painter who has expanded her 2D practice into a three-dimensional modality. Her work is centred around wooden posts and branches; found, deconstructed into segments, their surfaces altered, painted and then re-assembled into totems and pillars which are then located in specific environs. She uses reclaimed and natural materials, often with direct links to their final sites, working at the space between the organic and the manufactured with an aesthetic which sometimes echoes votives or meditative themes.

Jones will install the works from her residency ‘The Potency of Union’ first at the ATELIER MELUSINE, La Trimouille for ten days, commencing Friday 21 April 2023 - 30 April 2023. 

The exhibition then relocates to Forge in France, Journet for a second week and launches with our May Day celebrations on May the first.
The painted posts and beautifully constructed objects in visual dialogue with the Maypole created for the event by Annett, Sabina and Andrew Murray Playfair.

Francine Marie Theilen will give a presentation on Art, Alchemy and Pyschogeography; “focusing on the relationship between art, creative practice, alchemy and transformation, in the personal sense and in the collective. How does the creativity and imagination of the collective make community transformation more powerful and how can art making inspire us collectively (such as changing public institutions and communities) and personally (personal healing and growth) to transform?
Exploring the theme of personal geography, in regards to how your awareness of your inner landscape and the landscape you live in affect the sense of belonging and integration into both your body and the place you live. If you are integrated and in harmony with your personal geography, your inner landscapes, how that makes you a more effective community member ,or have the desire to be in or invest in a thriving community? For example, a tree is not a tree alone but part of a community, and thrives as a community member. Fungus in the roots, symbiotic relationships, shelter for animals, communication with other trees and species. And the recycling of matter, the cycle of nature etc.  In this way, a tree, a forest exemplifies for us a the idea of a circular economy.” Theilen 2023

The theme of the collective is further explored by
Paul Sheppard - The Honey Bee Steward, in his lecture : Natural Beekeeping- Letting the Bees decide:
Honeybees are genetic masters. They have been around for millions (120 to 80 million) of years but are presently threatened, along with millions of other species by pesticides, diseases and pests.
The Beekeeping Industry is worth more than $8 Billion and continues to rise. This has caused increased exploitation of honeybees weakening them and making them vulnerable to invasive pests and diseases.
To keep bees alive beekeepers must use an assortment of treatment products, invasive manipulations and costly queen replacements yearly. Even with these treatments honeybee colony losses in the USA and Canada are 40 to 50% over the last winter. European losses are much lower at around 14 to 18% on average.
Natural beekeeping methods simply stops all the treatments and manipulations and focuses on allowing the bees to regenerate their own species. It is difficult but it is possible. There are many natural beekeepers in France who do not treat their bees.
Honeybees are a link to the environment. They have been telling us for many years that we need to change the way we do things especially our unsustainable use of land for agriculture.

The May Dance - The Asherah Pole
Annett has developed a simple choreographed performance again a re-interpretation of the ancient northern tradition of dancing round a Maypole or Asherah Pole. A collective celebration of the transition of spring into summer, on the morning after Beltane, but also which echoes the dances of the mediterranean peoples around the Palm tree after its leaves had been stripped for what we now call ‘Palm Sunday’. It is a celebration of the feminine, porto-christian creatrix who spins her web across time and cultures.

Archery Display
Sabina and Andrew Murray Playfair are archers who have competed nationally. They will give a display of Longbow Shooting in the magnificent grounds of Forge in France.

L'exposition de Sarah Jones "The Potency of Union" (La puissance de l'union) présente des circuits de peinture élargis de l'ATELIER MELUSINE, La Trimouille à la Forge en France, Journet, qui seront re-situés et ré-interprétés dans l'espace et le sol de leur galerie.
Sarah Jones est une peintre qui a étendu sa pratique 2D à une modalité tridimensionnelle.Son travail est centré sur des poteaux et des branches en bois, trouvés, déconstruits en segments, dont les surfaces sont modifiées, peintes puis réassemblées en totems et en piliers qui sont ensuite placés dans des environnements spécifiques.

Elle utilise des matériaux récupérés et naturels, souvent en lien direct avec leur emplacement final, travaillant sur l'espace entre l'organique et le manufacturé avec une esthétique qui fait parfois écho à des votifs ou à des thèmes méditatifs.

Jones installera les œuvres de sa résidence " The Potency of Union " d'abord à l'ATELIER MELUSINE, La Trimouille pendant dix jours, du vendredi 21 avril 2023 au 30 avril 2023. 

L'exposition sera ensuite déplacée à Forge in France, Journet, pour une deuxième semaine et sera lancée lors de nos célébrations du 1er mai.

Les poteaux peints et les objets magnifiquement construits sont en dialogue visuel avec le mât de mai créé pour l'événement par Annett, Sabina et Andrew Murray Playfair.

Francine Marie Theilen présentera un exposé sur l'art, l'alchimie et la dyschogéographie, "…axé sur la relation entre l'art, la pratique créative, l'alchimie et la transformation, au sens personnel et collectif. Comment la créativité et l'imagination du collectif rendent-elles la transformation de la communauté plus puissante et comment la création artistique peut-elle nous inspirer collectivement (par exemple en changeant les institutions publiques et les communautés) et personnellement (guérison et croissance personnelles) à nous transformer ? Explorer le thème de la géographie personnelle, en ce qui concerne la façon dont la conscience de votre paysage intérieur et le paysage dans lequel vous vivez affectent le sentiment d'appartenance et d'intégration à la fois dans votre corps et dans l'endroit où vous vivez. Si vous êtes intégré et en harmonie avec votre géographie personnelle, vos paysages intérieurs, comment cela fait-il de vous un membre plus efficace de la communauté, ou avez-vous le désir d'être ou d'investir dans une communauté prospère ? Par exemple, un arbre n'est pas un arbre seul, il fait partie d'une communauté et s'épanouit en tant que membre de la communauté. Les champignons dans les racines, les relations symbiotiques, les abris pour les animaux, la communication avec d'autres arbres et espèces. Et le recyclage de la matière, le cycle de la nature, etc. Ainsi, un arbre, une forêt illustre pour nous l'idée d'une économie circulaire". Theilen 2023.

Les abeilles sont des maîtres en matière de génétique. Elles existent depuis des millions (120 à 80 millions) d'années mais sont actuellement menacées, comme des millions d'autres espèces, par les pesticides, les maladies et les parasites. L'industrie apicole représente plus de 8 milliards de dollars et continue d'augmenter. La danse de mai - Le mât d'Asherah
Annett a mis au point une chorégraphie simple qui réinterprète l'ancienne tradition nordique de la danse autour d'un mât de mai ou d'un mât d'Asherah. Il s'agit d'une célébration collective de la transition du printemps à l'été, le matin qui suit Beltane, mais qui fait également écho aux danses des peuples méditerranéens autour du palmier après que ses feuilles aient été effeuillées pour ce que nous appelons aujourd'hui le "dimanche des Rameaux". C'est une célébration de la créatrice porto-chrétienne qui tisse sa toile à travers le temps et les cultures.

Sabina et Andrew Murray Playfair sont des archers qui ont participé à des compétitions nationales. Ils présenteront une démonstration de tir à l'arc dans le magnifique domaine de Forge, en France.

Rubans et célébration des dons
Alors que j'attachais les rubans ensemble,
pour en faire un ensemble de douze,
afin de danser autour du mât de mai,
j'ai pensé à l'origine de tous ces rubans.

Pendant de nombreuses années,
j'ai rassemblé des rubans dans un bocal,
provenant de cadeaux d'anniversaire,
de boîtes de chocolat et d'occasions spéciales.
En les nouant ensemble, j'ai pensé à tous ces souvenirs,
des souvenirs tissés, certains pour célébrer mon mariage,
d'autres pour fêter le 75e anniversaire de notre club de tir à l'arc,
d'autres encore noués autour de cadeaux de Noël offerts par des personnes aimées.
Comme un calendrier de jolis moments

Gifted Ribbons and Celebration
As I was tying the ribbons together,
To make a set of twelve,
To dance around the maypole,
I thought about where all the ribbons came from.

For many years I have collected ribbons in a jar,
From birthday presents and chocolate boxes and special occasions.
Tying them together made me think of all those memories,
Woven memories.

Some were to celebrate my wedding,
Some were from a celebration of our archery club’s 75th anniversary,
Some tied around Christmas gifts from loved ones.

Like a flowing calendar of lovely moments in time
Woven together to form a string to hold
Whilst dancing to celebrate the turning of the year,

And all the hope that spring brings.

Notes from Stephen Pope on the historical and religious roots of the May Pole - also thought to be the Palm Tree when it has been stripped of its leaves for Palm Sunday - but echoing much older practices linked directly to Bees and Dancing around a totem or celebratory/ceremonial pole;

”Min Ha-Midbar Ke’Timarot

Ke’Timarot, is The Palm Tree of Min Ha-Mi-Debor: The Palm tree of Deborah: The Hay of Deborah; “Bee”, is here, placed at the beginning of the word generating Mem life-blood into Debar sequential patterns of self-determining life unfolding within its connectivity of the whole. Ha-Midbar is the wilderness, the landscape of the journeying Soul, through which all of the prophets and prophetesses of Yisrael make their way, conscious step by conscious step. Deborah “Bee” is the still quiet space in which the voice of Divine ~ Spiritual awareness arises, the transmission of the dance of Heaven, the intelligence of the Universal Spirit of all Life.

Timarot, the Palm Tree contains the Idea of structuring of a dome, under which a passionate awakening for life takes place. An inner marriage of the Life of the Cosmos as it manifests all sentient creatures within their forms within and as the Fields of Eretz, the Cosmic Earth, the New Earth of Eternal Creative Life.

Kaph, palm of hand and sole of foot, is to sensitize your multidimensional body into sculpting form, breathing through your sensitized skin. Timarot, is the plural of Timarah the Palm Tree, with Vav - Tau, it becomes the multiplicity of Creative Renewal anchored into the Six directions of connectivity through the illuminated Spine. The fountain of Creation ~ Creativity within the Word of universal appearances.”

Le palmier de Deborah : Le foin de Deborah ; "Abeille" est ici, placé au début du mot générant le sang de vie Mem dans les modèles séquentiels de Debar de la vie autodéterminée se déployant dans sa connectivité de l'ensemble.
